Presentation:
What does it mean to be a champion of change? (45 minutes)
"Every
one person can make a difference if they
just knew what one thing to do."
This presentation describes the challenges with large-scale
change efforts within a company and what high achievers
do to overcome negative resistance. Topics and or themes
of this motivating presentation describe the heroic
efforts of a young man orchestrating a turn around effort
at Yosemite National Park. The "top ten" elements
of the presentation include:
1.
The importance of explicitly stated values and guiding
principles
2.
The concept of feedback and employee engagement
3.
Understanding that change at this level is a marathon
not a sprint (you need endurance)
4.
Creating a sense of urgency
5.
Establishing a "clear line of sight"
6.
You need to set reach or stretch goals that are achievable
7.
Everyone (including Sr. management) must set the example
and walk the talk
8.
You must have a realistic timetable (delayed gratification)
9.
The importance of having a sense of humor and having
fun during the process
10.
Remember, it has been scientifically proven that "it
is easier to give birth than to raise the dead"
(Never try to rescue someone who doesn't want to be
saved)
This
speech is best as a closing presentation, because of
the motivating effect it will have on people to return
to their place of work on Monday and try to make a difference.
